How to Shape a Swirled Loaf of Bread

Creating a beautifully swirled loaf of bread involves a few simple steps. Follow these guidelines to ensure your loaf turns out perfectly every time.


Recipe

  1. Prepare a Base Dough and Colored Dough

    • Divide your recipe in half. Prepare half per instructions. Add 1 Tablespoon of Powdered Dragon Fruit to second half of the dough. Follow instructions for each dough mixture until the Preshape. Then follow the instructions below for preshape and final shape. Bake per normal instructions.

Preshape

  1. Prepare the Base Dough

    • Begin by dumping the plain loaf of dough onto a clean counter.

    • Gently spread the dough out into a large rectangle. Be careful not to stretch it so thin that it becomes transparent.

  2. Prepare the Colored Dough

    • Dump the pink dough on top of the plain dough.

    • Spread the pink dough into a large rectangle that matches the size of the dough underneath.

  3. Create the Trifold

    • Start by folding one side of the dough over itself, covering two-thirds of the rectangle.

    • Fold the opposite side over the top, creating a long log shape.

  4. Roll the Dough

    • Roll the dough up like a cinnamon roll, ensuring the swirl pattern is tight and even.

    • Allow the dough to rest for 20-30 minutes uncovered, which helps in developing flavor and texture.




Final Shape

Round Loaf
  1. Seal the Edges

    • Gently pinch the sides of the dough together to seal them, preserving the swirl inside.

  2. Shape the Dough

    • Form a cupping shape with your hands around the dough.

    • Rotate the dough counterclockwise towards you, gently coaxing it into a round, smooth ball.

  3. Prepare the Basket

    • Lightly dust a round basket with rice flour or all-purpose flour.

    • Turn the dough upside down and place it into the prepared basket.


Oval Loaf
  1. Prepare the Dough

    • Turn the dough over so that the seam is on top.

  2. Shape the Dough

    • Slip your hands under the sides of the dough.

    • Bring your hands together, allowing the dough to meet in the middle, forming an oval shape.

  3. Prepare the Basket

    • Lightly flour an oval basket.

    • Place the dough into the basket, seam side up.


Final Steps
  • Cover the basket to protect the dough as it continues to rest and rise.

  • Lightly dust top with blend of white rice flour and 1 teaspoon of dragon fruit powder prior to baking.
